This is a weird quote to think about. Until this moment I never really thought of how my parents are getting older and older just as I am. It is probably because they aren't changing in appearance like I am. I have seen my dad look the same for the last 18 years of my life, but for me however, I have seen myself change over the years. I've grown taller, gained weight, grown facial hair, my voice has changed. Its unreal to think that one day my dad will be 70 or 80 years old. Maybe then I will see a change in him. Maybe I won't. It's too hard to think about that. Our parents have experienced so much. Some day we will have experienced just as much or even more than them. Just because your growing up doesn't mean your parents aren't as well.
I Sit and Look Out - Walt Whitmen
I SIT and look out upon all the sorrows of the world, and upon all oppression and shame;
See, hear, and am silent.
This weekend was a very interesting weekend. My girlfriend's dad came up from Texas to surprise her for homecoming weekend. On Friday night, the three of us went to eat at Texas Roadhouse to eat dinner. After dinner we went to one of my girlfriends relatives house to hangout. On Saturday, I got up and started getting things ready for homecoming that night. I picked up flowers and got money from the bank for dinner. I picked up my girlfriend and we went to get our pictures taken at Gervasi Vineyards. We then went and ate at Longhorn and finally went to the dance that night. After the dance we went to a party. On Sunday I spent my day hanging around and going up to North Canton to shop. Overall, the best part of my weekend was getting to spend time with my girlfriends family since i haven't got to meet them before. To get me through this week I will rely on my family and friends to keep me from becoming bored.
After reading the proclamation from President Obama it made me think a lot about 9/11 and the fifteen years after it. 9/11 didn't directly impact me and I'm thankful for that but it did affect the families of over 3,000 people lost that day. At my house we hung our flag at half staff and continued throughout the day. I read something somewhere that said this year is the first year that 9/11 will be in high school history books. 9/11 use to be a much bigger deal years ago. We would have presentations and assemblies about it and would watch videos of that day. Now all we get is a 5 minute speech. This is a shame because it was one of America's biggest events and it united all of us here in America and all of the world too. 9/11 should be more than it is today. 9/11 is now a national day of remembrance but everyday should be a day to remember those who gave their lives on that dark day fifteen years ago. 'Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility" - William Wordworth This quote means we all can produce poetry if we are in our emotional state. Like if something bad happened I would be able to write a very meaningful poem.
"Peace is a journey of a thousand miles and it must be taken one step at a time" - Lyndon B. Johnson You can't move faster than the hand of time. That means why rush forward into life, just relax and go one step at a time. As long as you don't rush you will be at peace with yourself and those around you.
In my community we call ourselves Wildcats. Being a Wildcat can mean many different things. It means being proud to wear red, grey, and white everyday. Helping a neighbor down the street with their yard. Standing up and cheering even though the football team lost. Community is a big part of Canton Local. Canton Local is one of the best communities around Stark County. We have great people and great education.
I would spend my day with Mr. Miyagi because he is in one of my most favorite movies of all time, The Karate Kid. The day would be spent driving around in old, classic cars and preform karate and beat people up.
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. I think that sometimes it is good to be different but it can be scary. Society is always against change but change can be beautiful can good.
"It is absurd to hold that a man ought to be ashamed of being unable to defend himself with limbs, but not being able to defend himself with speech and reason, when the use of rational speech is more distinctive of a human being than the use of his limbs" - Aristotle Words are better to use than your limbs. It is okay not to be able to fight. You can use words to get the same or even better point across. Using force only will make things worse.
